LUNAR TUNES

A SONG CYCLE FOR

THE JEWISH SEASONS

WORDS AND MUSIC BY DANIEL BRENNER

ARTIST STATEMENT:

This digital album of songs springs from my cultural/spiritual/religious encounter with the changing of the seasons and the sacred days that occur on the Jewish calendar. I started with the Hannukah song "A Minor Holiday" in 2012 and it turned out to be a minor hit...so I kept going. Over the months that followed I crafted a tune for each holiday, picking up my guitar and playing some jazz chords, and sitting in front of a video camera to do a recording. I wish I had time to go to a studio or do a proper video but between work and raising three kids and volunteering and raking leaves and loading the dishwasher, these youtube clips are the highest production values to which I can aspire. Thank you to the people who encouraged me by "liking" my videos or sharing them with friends or sending me emails with exclamation marks. All praise to my family for putting up with me and for gently ridiculing every single tune. Kudos to the writers at The Forward and New Jersey Jewish News and The Montclair Patch who helped share my tunes with a wider audience! I hope that you all enjoy listening to LUNAR TUNES!

P.S. I'm no professional singer or player - just a guy who loves to write and perform - but if you are a singer or player who wants to belt out a version of one of these tunes, go for it - and send me a link. I could think of nothing better than hearing a cover.
